DNA on Your TV: the People vs. OJ Simpson

DNA on Your TV Template

The OJ Simpson murder trial rocked the world in 1995. (To those of you not familiar with the Simpson case, OJ Simpson was accused of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in June 1994.) Millions of Americans were glued to their TVs as he recklessly drove his now infamous white Ford Bronco in an attempt to escape arrest. TV cameras captured almost every event inside the courtroom up to the “not guilty” verdict. It seems fitting that 20 years later, Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee, American Horror Story and Scream Queens is using the medium to  give viewers a look at the case from the lawyers’ prospectives.

DNA Evidence at the Forefront of Law

OJ’s blood was found in the Ford Bronco, at the crime scene and at his own residence. The prosecution asserted that because his blood was everywhere, he must be guilty of the heinous crime, whereas the defense made the case that Simpson’s blood was planted in all three locations, and they even had Simpson try on a glove found at the crime scene. The LAPD crime lab mishandled Simpson’s DNA and contaminated, according to the defense lawyers. The defense ultimately won and left America shocked.
